I have been serving the community since I graduated from college because I know that people need God. He can help them to deal with all kinds of hardships and gain the strength to overcome any challenges. A short hymn says, “I can smile in the storm as long as the Lord is in my boat.” Working at CCHC allows me to be in touch with non-believers, build friendship with them, and tell them about Jesus Christ. It is God’s command that we share the Gospel. Rev. Isaac Ngai once quoted the last words of a missionary, “No Reserve, No Retreat, and No Regret.” What is your life like today? It is not just the physical benefits that people need. What they really need is the spiritual benefit which is eternal life. Let us encourage one another to accomplish God’s wonderful plan together. |
I thank God that I have had the opportunity to volunteer at CCHC for eight happy years. In 2001, I moved to Hong Kong and felt very lonely. I wondered, “Would I no longer serve God at CCHC?” But God is miraculous! When I went back to the United States in 2005, He gave me another opportunity to serve at CCHC.
Would I be able do it? English, computers… there were far too many things not at my expertise! I prayed and God encouraged me to try things out of my comfort zone. Someone warned me that the work is tough and involves manual labor. I stand firm that this is a gift from God! I believe this is God’s grace. For the last two years, I profoundly experienced joy as it became more plentiful when I put more effort in serving. It is wonderful to serve Him by exercising the gifts He’s given me. Heavenly father, thank you! |
I enjoy working for CCHC because it is a place about mission and love. All these years, CCHC has guided people back to God’s love through various activities and channels. I work in the accounting department at CCHC. Although I am not working for the frontlines, the impressive life testimonies of my co-workers have inspired me to be on fire for God. It feeds my desire of wanting to better my skills for the job each and every day. I believe that CCHC will have more accomplishments in the ministry field in the year to come. Ever since I’ve started work here, my family and my life have been transformed. I know that I am weak and insufficient, but God is my refuge and in Him I can be strong. Each day, the wisdom and strength that come from God flow in me. He is the one whom I will follow and serve! |
I started serving the Lord in the summer after graduation from high school. I helped the New York Christian Short-term Mission Training Center (NYSTM), to publish their first issue of Truth Monthly, and I continued serving there in my college years. I learned a lot in those three years of ministry, including how to have faith and discover joy in doing God’s work. After I left NYSTM, I served in various Christian organizations that brothers and sisters in the Lord recommended. Over a year ago, God called me to CCHC and I continued to witness God’s faithfulness in leading me, and helping me grow in the knowledge of His love and truth. I’m especially indebted to the weekly worship service held every Tuesday, where I learn from the preachers what it means to serve the Lord. I also learned to rely on God more as my co-workers shared their life experiences in the meetings. As mere human, we can’t achieve much; but with God’s grace, we can do all things. |

Ten years ago, my son was ill and I suffered from tremendous pressure as I worked full time and took care of him at the same time. I was very stressed out and had paid regular visits to a psychologist. My sister encouraged me to go to church and I ended up accepting Christ as my Lord and Savior. Since then, God has taken care of me and I was healed without medical attention.
At the beginning of this year, a friend of mine gave me a job application form for CCHC. After having an interview with Atleen, I waited for a short while and she contacted me again for a second interview and offered me a position. However, I had a ton of struggles and I asked God to help lead my way. During the second interview, God granted me peace and joy, but my faith was insufficient. Rev. Lo suggested me to pray some more before deciding. Through this process, I realized that God wanted me to learn what it meant to trust and rely on Him. Hence, I decided to take this job. Looking back, though I’ve been through some tough times and have stumbled on the way, God has never stopped supporting and strengthening me. I trust that His grace is enough. May all glory and honor be to our highest God. Amen. |

Before coming to CCHC, I was a caseworker in a non-profit organization. It was a challenging but rewarding job. I really enjoyed it until I met a client, Mr. X, in 2003, that I realized the truth of "man does not live on bread alone." Although I was able to help Mr. X obtain daily necessities, I could not share the Gospel with him. I had to be “professional” by not mixing my personal religious belief with my work.
In 2004, I had the opportunity to serve in a new fellowship at CCHC and their autism ministry. I felt that God was calling me to serve Him full-time. However, I struggled a lot and took some time to pray and share with Rev. Lo. A few months later, I made up my mind and took the offer at the Community Services department.
To my pleasant surprise, I saw Mr. X at CCHC! It turned out that a CCHC staff shared the Gospel with him back in 2003. He accepted Christ then and his life was transformed! I thank God for granting me assurance in His calling in this special way, and that was only the beginning of my beautiful journey at CCHC. |
As a psychology student, I was determined to be a clinical psychologist. It wasn’t until a snowy day, I met a vagabond who was cowered and clothed by newspaper to keep warm. I suddenly realized that having my own clinic could not help the underprivileged. It would only gratify my own vanity!
How could I contribute to the society? God spoke to me through my encounter with the vagabond to be a social worker. I became a member of CCHC on March 1st, 2007 and started working with a group of diligent Christians. I am not concerned with how much I earn because I see it not as a job but rather, my vision and mission.
God’s appointment fulfilled my dream. I have learned what satisfaction and happiness is. May God equip me to touch more lives! |
I’ve served in the Community Service department for over two and a half years. I get to meet a lot of people and witness various challenges they face. I enjoy hearing their stories, praying for them, sharing God’s Word and my personal testimonies. Back in June, Mr. Yang got very sick and happened to call CCHC. I had the chance to share the Gospel with him. He accepted Christ as His personal Savior after the phone conversation and has since been attending a local church to seek the truth. Though he had to deal with the hardship of surgery, his heart was filled with peace and joy. He recovered quickly and was grateful for the Lord’s healing. My heart was thrilled upon hearing his testimony. I’m blessed because of my service here. I desire to evangelize more by relying on God’s mighty power. To God be all the glory and praise! |
The Evangelism Department held two evangelistic events this year, one in Flushing and one in Chinatown called “Jesus loves Chinatown,” in which games, skits, testimonies, a short message and one-on-one evangelism took place. Aside from being busy with planning these events, God gave me a huge birthday present – a new kidney! After the transplant, I went back to work, but my body had yet to adapt to the new kidney. After a while, my faith started to waver and I doubted if God had really given me a functioning kidney. Eight weeks after the operation, I got up to go to the bathroom during midnight. I couldn’t fall back to sleep right away as I asked myself, “What did I just do?” Then I realized…I just went to the bathroom! Bathroom?! I haven’t urinated for seven years! Praise the Lord, I don’t need to depend on dialysis anymore! |
I hand out tracts in Chinatown every morning since I joined CCHC’s evangelism ministry. At first, life in Chinatown was terrible for me. I was often mocked by people on the streets and I also found their spitting on the streets quite offensive.
However, God used two articles on the topic of suicide to change my perspective. From then on, I learned to treasure the value of lost souls. Nowadays, these kinsmen have become my friends! They come from various backgrounds: some suffer from chronic diseases, some are mentally abused, some are physically challenged, while others are widowed, abandoned, gamblers, drug-addicts. On the other hand, some are much more privileged, young and educated doctors or post doctoral degree holders. But whatever the case may be, everyone needs healing from Jesus. God granted me this group of friends, and I have witnessed God’s miraculous work in their lives. I also praise God for granting me Christian co-workers to feed the flock alongside me and together we tend to the needs of the community. We endure the hard labor with tears, yet in our hearts, we’re full of joy for God is with us. |
I felt God’s call to full-time ministry in a revival meeting led by Rev. Ling Lee. In 2004, God opened a door for me to teach English at CCHC. The job itself was quite a challenge, but when I saw my fellow kinsmen gradually learned to speak and practice English in daily life as well as their diligence in learning and being respectful to the teacher, it gave me a great sense of encouragement and accomplishment. When they asked me why I chose to work here, I was reminded that it’s because of God’s calling. Previously, my weakest subject was English, yet I am used as an English teacher now solely because of God’s sufficient grace. Here, I thank my dear brothers and sisters in Christ for supporting me along the way. As 1 Cor. 12:25-26 says, “…that its (body of Christ) parts should have equal concern for each other…if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.” |

| Youth Dept |
God had called me into youth ministry in 1999. Through a couple years of prayer and counsel by trusted leaders and friends, God confirmed that joining CCHC was my calling for now. Being the youth director has broadened my experience in youth ministry in many ways. Of course, there are many hardships that come with serving the Lord. I am reminded that God has not called me to do everything, but to be faithful and obedient in the few things he has entrusted to me. If we can reach just one person and disciple them, they will in turn reach others and disciple them and so on. Being able to create opportunities for young and mature Christians, see their effectiveness in investing in a young person’s life, and pointing them towards Christ is a joy that is beyond words. |
God had put a desire in my heart for youth, while I was still a youth myself. I had accepted Christ a few years earlier but no one nurtured my growth and I did not seek fellowship on my own so I fell back to my old ways. It was through fellowship and the counsel from wise Christian adults that my life was transformed and God became real in my life. Now my desire is to see the youth of this community worship God and to see that He is relevant to their lives. However, this is one of the biggest challenges in youth ministry: the lack of adult and parental involvement. However, I thank God for a place like CCHC, for it allows me to work with leaders, adults, parents and youth. It is CCHC’s reputation and established relationships that enables this to happen. |
I received my calling to serve God back in 1997. Since then, God has led me through various serving opportunities through my church at Church of the Living Lord and CCHC’s youth ministry. However, I was working in the public health field that did not allow me to give fully all my time and energy into ministry work. I had my first child in 2002 and took 4 years of maternity leave to be a full time mother. At that time, I decided to step in ministry training school for a full year, while taking the opportunity to lead my church’s youth ministry. I committed to serving there full time, which also connected me back to CCHC’s Herald Youth Center (HYC). I was reluctantly in the process of returning back to work in public health and HYC was looking for another staff, I decieded to continue serving the youth. Not only did I get to work at HYC, I can continue serving at my church, too. I love working with youths while serving along side with them. I believe I am in the best place of my calling at this point of my life. |

| Twin Lake Camp Ministry |
I have been a volunteer ever since CCHC was founded. I loved what I did and had always wished to participate more. In 2000, I decided to transfer from the school I was teaching in to another one, while I longed for God’s clear calling into full-time ministry.
In 2004, I officially joined CCHC in the administrative operation of Camp Herald and assisted other departments in various ways, including distributing Herald Monthly to local churches and help organize the CCHC walkathon. Though we made mistakes along the way, they have become stepping stones to success. The key to success for CCHC is waiting on the Lord and not leaning on man’s own understanding. I pray that the Camp Herald ministries will be expanded and improved in the near future.
The Mission Center is yet another landmark of the CCHC ministry. I’m very privileged to have taken part in its search and development. I pray for God’s leading for us to step out in boldness and become a blessing to the community, perhaps even to Camp Herald. |
I came to Christ during a summer camp held at Camp Herald, which is why the camp means so much to me. During the retreat, participants not only get to know God in a quiet and natural environment, but also have the privilege to serve with people from other churches. Though the work at the camp is not easy, it has a satisfying spiritual reward. Each summer, I go up to Camp Herald to serve as a volunteer. Last year, I finally became a full-time staff. I helped to recruit new staff, plan projects, and design programs for the camp. During the gospel camp for college students this year, I received a vision from God calling me to evangelize among college students and help revive their college fellowships. After six months of planning and preparing, the fellowships eventually began to expand and more college students, including some non-believers, came. We rejoice as we share the Gospel with them. This job is exhaustive at times, but whenever I am reminded that God can use me to bless others, all the complaints and hard labor turn into joy. |

I have learned and experienced a lot here: the abundant grace and love of Jesus Christ, the unforgettable times at the 4th Summer Music & Arts Camp and the 5th Community Benefit Concert. In the past 25 years, CCHC has served over thousands of Chinese. When I realized that I’m one of the chosen ones to be part of the CCHC family helping the Chinese in America, I take pride in the call and my gratitude to the Lord overflows. I also rejoice in working with great colleagues who love the Lord. Each morning we start the day with prayer. These are indeed God’s special blessings bestowed upon us. My mother often exhorts me to persevere, “You can give up any job, but not the ones that God has appointed you to serve in.” May I be used by God even more, so as to be a blessing to others. |

To a Texan, living and working in New York city is like a dream in the fantasy world. However, I had this one voice recurring in my heart, pursuading me to take the road less traveled. Therefore, I arrived at New York and came in for the interview for the Music Center position. As I prayed and responded to God’s call, I began to recognize that what God wanted was not what I was capable of, but whether I was willing to be used by Him. If we know the call comes from God and we willingly follow through by faith, God will surely take care of us and bless us, no matter how unreasonable or illogical it appears. The other important lesson I've learned was that if faith is not accompanied by deeds, it is dead. The peace, joy and guidance of God are wonderful. It always exceeds our expectations and is incomparable with things in this world. I experience His faithfulness and grace each and every day. I trust that as long as I walk with the Lord, I will receive sufficient strength in Him. |

The work at CCHC is quite hectic. Aside from my assigned responsibilities, many times we need to take care of other unexpected matters. As CCHC expands, our workload also increases, which includes some manual labor such as cleaning the toilet or carpet and collecting the garbage. Sometimes we need to be weightlifters by moving publications from one room to another. While other times we help package The Passion for distribution or even fill in for colleagues in other departments when they're away.
Sometimes, I think God has put the invisible label, “Ms. Nice,” on my forehead. That might be why I would willingly obey His command to fulfill the assignment I’ve been given. But there are times when I am reluctant to serve in those ways. Yet praise the Lord, He’s using these opportunities to train me and grow the fruits of the Spirit in my life. |
Before I joined CCHC to work at the bookstore, my father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and was hospitalized. His condition had deteriorated drastically. After a month or so, he couldn’t walk, talk nor eat without assistance. At the time, I could only pray for God’s mercy. He responded by providing me with this job at the bookstore by allowing me sufficient time to visit my dad before and after work.
However, as his condition worsened each day, I was troubled and worried. Right then, God allowed me to find a book in the bookstore in which the author talked about her own mother’s illness and death. She testified that the threat of death could not set her and her mother apart, but pulled them closer to each other. Through this, God comforted and reminded me that sickness could not separate my father and I, but drew us closer instead. I thank God for preparing my heart for the unavoidable and blessing me with this job that allows me to read books and nurture my faith every day. |

In these turbulent times and place, in order to find a way out in the midst of chaos, I rely on what the Scripture says: “Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord Almighty,” in order to accomplish tasks. Because the work in CCHC has often been overwhelming, I have to learn to serve people with dedication and obey God’s command with good faith and generosity. In doing so, I experience God’s presence and can confidently praise and thank Him. I am also thankful for the staff at CCHC, that we can mutually care for each other and serve the Lord cooperatively according to the gifts God has given us, to become mighty soldiers for the Lord. We often eat together to share our concerns and offer comfort to one another. It’s been said that there are no free lunches, but at CCHC, not only do we have “free lunches” frequently--we have free dinner, barbecues, birthday cakes… all tokens of expression of our appreciation for one another, united team spirit, and diligent effort to strive toward the goals that the Lord Jesus Christ has set before us. |
After CCHC purchased the new Mission Center building, the work at CCHC has become mounting with the mission center reconstruction project and the added financial burden to finance the project. It seems like a bumpy road ahead. With trepidation, the staff acknowledged that this is Holy Spirit’s leading and has been praying unceasingly that God would give Rev. Lo much courage and wisdom. Now that I see the door to the New Mission is open, I believe God will lead CCHC to a land flowing with milk and honey. Since the purchase of the Mission Center building, CCHC has held numerous events with various churches there including: joint Christmas concert, New Year’s Eve Candlelight Worship, Cantonese Opera Concert, fundraising drama, “Prodigal Son...” thank God for all these because He let me experience the sweet joy of working with Him. Praise and glory be to the Mighty Lord. |
After “9/11”, the business of my previous company plummeted greatly and I was one of many who were laid off. Thank God I was able to join the ministry of CCHC. Over the past four years I learned how to share the Gospel through providing community service, and extend the love of God to people of different social status. I have experienced the amazing acts and power of God at work. These precious experiences have helped my work in CCHC. Recently, I saw many professionals and young college graduates expressing interest to commit in serving at CCHC, to uplift the banner of the righteousness of God. These are what many commercial enterprises cannot match. May God bless the future ministries of CCHC! Praises and glory be to the Almighty God. |
I am responsible for overseeing: the Girl Scouts ministry, volunteer workers, organizing events, and managing CCHC membership. Even though the work is demanding and the resources are very limited, the encouragement and support among the co-workers often inspire me. I realized that usually God does not ask me to do anything grand but to partner with Him. I believe that every person who comes to work at CCHC has their own reasons, but God has His wonderful plan for each person’s life. I am thankful that God has led me to CCHC, and has enabled me to have a deeper understanding of the lives of Chinese people in Chinese communities. When my family came to America, they saw the immensity of the American lifestyle. They felt alienated but through the different services at CCHC for new Chinese immigrants, they received the needed help in getting settled in this country. I believe this is also what many new immigrants needed. |
I joined CCHC back in May of 2001, and worked together with Dr. Franklin Cheung on promoting united ministry and then on our newsletter. When CCHC established the Flushing Center on February 8th of 2003, I started working on five radio programs broadcasted on two Chinese radio stations. These were new challenges, but by the love of our Lord, these tasks were accomplished. In 2007, God used the purchasing of Mission Center to commit us to follow His Great Commission and the promise of His presence to be with us in spreading the Gospel. The Gospel is for all nations, far and near, and through the ministry of community services to international missions, Jesus Christ is honored. I cannot help but respond to God’s passionate call to serve. Let’s love one another and testify for God together and glorify the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. |
It’s been my desire to be a missionary, to spread the Gospel and to lead people to Christ, which led me to CCHC. Through various activities in CCHC such as senior fellowship, Girl Scouts, and evangelistic music concerts, I have shared the gospel with numerous people. People accepted Christ not because we can speak eloquently, but because our actions towards them are sincere and our love is genuine. Since I started working at CCHC, there were three times that I have encountered severe difficulties in breathing and have had chest pains. If it was not for the grace of God that I was admitted to the hospital in time, I would probably be resting in heaven already. From these experiences, I realized that God dictates how long a person will live. Since then, I prayed that God would teach me how to count the days of my life, so I would have a wise heart, not wasting the time that I have, but be submissive to God’s command, and be obedient to the leading of the Holy Spirit. |
Thank God for the opportunity to serve in CCHC. My job is to arrange classes and receive members and newcomers. I am very happy here at CCHC because I can be in touch with people and spread the Gospel through our classes. What’s more, my spiritual life is nourished and I am closer to God more than ever. |

I do typesetting and graphic design for Herald Monthly. When I first joined the Literature Department, there were only six or seven staff crammed in a small corner, but now the entire floor accommodates us as the Lord has added more co-workers to us. My sincere wish is that the future Herald Monthly can be even more resourceful in attracting non-Christian readers and that they would look forward to the publishing of Herald Monthly each month. |
I have been working at CCHC for eleven years now. I believe that CCHC is a place where we can practice Biblical truth. During one of the weekly staff meetings, Rev. Lo pointed out an important principle for us to follow as we serve: “We must not reject anyone who comes to CCHC for help!” When I see those who have been helped by the Love Focus fund, despite the fact that we can only offer momentary help during their hardships, I recognize how their lives have been transformed after knowing Jesus Christ through CCHC. I value my work at CCHC and I believe I have made the right choice by sticking with it. The greatest joy I have at CCHC is the prayer meetings held every morning before work, in which co-workers kneel together before the Lord’s seat of mercy. |
“It would be wonderful if I could be like a pastor--serving God full-time.” This thought had been brewing in my heart for several years, until I began serving full-time at CCHC. It’s truly wonderful to be working here. Although I don’t come into direct contact with non-believers, I know that I am sharing the Gospel with them as my co-workers and I join efforts. Having received many conversion response forms filled out by our readers, I realize that I am really taking an active role in evangelizing to non-believers and serving both God and men. I often ask God to use the Herald Monthly to help those who are in need and transform their hearts, so that many more can be blessed by the Gospel through our work. |
I was a volunteer at CCHC back in high school. Later on, I became a part-time staff. And eventually, I became a full-time co-worker up till now. I have learned a great deal while serving with co-workers, yet I also realized that I have much to improve on. What touches me the most is my colleagues’ willingness to sacrifice themselves and to serve one another with compassion, which I believe is impossible without the love of Christ. I am very glad that I get to serve at CCHC. It is certainly a privilege to serve God with what I’ve learned. It has been a great joy to witness the publication of Herald Monthly and have the newspapers distributed to so many places around the world. I hope I can continue to do my best to support those who serve at the frontlines. |
I dreamt to involve myself in the study of poetry and literature before I entered college, so I chose Chinese language arts as my major. Never had I imagined that one day I could really work in the field of literature as my life long profession. After my conversion, I dedicated myself to serve the Lord, but it never occurred to me that one day I would make Chinatown, New York my community or even become a member of the CCHC family. I work not only for my interest in literature, but for the mission that Christ has called me to live as a witness of His love, truth and faith. The call is a challenge mixed with labor and toil and with moments of joy that pass so quickly. I encounter many hardships and often come to my wit’s end, but the Lord never fails to lead and comfort me to keep pressing forward. Ten years have elapsed with many good memories of fighting the good fight with my co-workers. Yesterday has gone and tomorrow is coming. My reservation for the near future is to unwaveringly devote myself to the Lord. |
Here in the CCHC family, we come from different backgrounds, serve in various churches and reach out to diverse professions and trades. In the recent years, our ministry has expanded to the neglected, discriminated and abandoned groups (such as the restaurant workers, cancer patients, mentally disabled children and home-attendants). We even reach out to the orphans in China, prisoners’ children and abandoned youngsters. We need financial help and resources from brothers and sisters for support. CCHC is like a church without walls and a ministry without borders! I pray that with our gifts and talents dedicated to the Lord, we can change the world. |
I thank the Lord for leading me to serve at CCHC over the past eleven years. The literature ministry can spread the gospel and Christ's love to readers around the world. There was this tall man who was just released from the prison, came by CCHC and looked for me. He held a copy of the New York edition of Herald Monthly and said that although he was not a Christian, he was very fond of and had always looked forward to reading the paper every month. Moreover, many of his inmates also enjoyed reading Herald Monthly, and he wished we could mail it to them on a regular basis. After that, he took out a twenty-dollar bill and said sheepishly, “I have just been released and do not have much money. I hope this can help cover a little postage fee in mailing the paper.” I was deeply touched by what he said. What is more valuable and meaningful than spreading the gospel? |

I thank God for allowing me to serve in the Evangelism and Social Service Departments of CCHC over the past two years. Just as the psalmist described, how pleasant and wonderful it is to serve with a group of God-loving co-workers, as we care for one another and spread the Gospel together. I can share the Gospel with them at various evangelical meetings, Gospel Cafe, Restaurant Fellowship, and in daily conversations. When I see how much they long to understand and pursue the Gospel, my heart is filled with immeasurable joy. While we celebrate the 25th anniversary of CCHC, let’s ask God to continue to use CCHC as a blessing to people in the community. To God be all the glory. |
During my four years of ministry at CCHC, I’ve witnessed God’s mighty power. The Children Village in China is a good example. When we started the ministry, we didn’t have many resources. Now we’ve adopted 74 orphans in San-Ming and plan to build another one in Guang Xi. On one bleak winter day in February, we stayed in a church facility without hot water or heat. That was a foretaste of the hardships that the pioneer missionaries Hudson Taylor and Morrison experienced on their missions in China. Now when I see the smiling faces of the orphans and hear how their lives were turned around, I know it’s the hard labor of all co-workers that have produced the abundant fruits. Praise be to the Lord! |
I’ve been with CCHC for many years. In the past, when I tracked down the writers to meet our deadlines, helped in distribution and met the needs of the inquirers, there was a void in my heart until I witnessed one baptismal service at our church. I learned about the testimony of brother, Chao-Ding Wu, of how God had transformed his life. Brother Wu used to be an atheist. After he moved to the States, he got addicted to gambling. He knew quitting was beyond his power, then the Lord intervened. One day when he felt the temptation, he picked up a Herald Monthly and inadvertently it said, “ It’s time to quit gambling!” He was convicted by the Spirit, and he accepted Jesus as his Savior. With God’s help, he quit gambling and led his entire family to the Lord. His testimony came as an unexpected gift to me. From that moment on, my life was renewed and charged with fire to serve the Lord. I believe Brother Wu’s story is indeed an encouragement and affirmation to CCHC while celebrating her 25th anniversary. |
