I’ve been with CCHC for over 14 years. When I look back, I see various ministries, conferences, and events that touched lives and gained great victory for the Lord. Those include the two buildings CCHC purchased to function as the Community Center and the Medical Center. But what I treasure most is the way the Lord adds various people into my life. They are:
- The fruits of the gospel, the new believers: When I visit churches to share about CCHC’s ministry, I often encounter people telling me that they had accepted Christ in one of CCHC’s evangelistic meetings, while others now serve in the local church as a leader. I see God’s blessings in our evangelistic programs. The fruit and the joy of the harvest keep the Herald Crusaders and me going.
- Our clients in the community ministered to by our service: Everyday I see numerous seekers in the Community Center asking for help. Some are burdened by financial needs, some are lonely migrant workers, some are afflicted by illness, and some are strained by difficult family situations… CCHC ministers to their needs and walks with them through their darkest hours. Later on, they have words of gratitude for the Lord, smiling faces and hope that have encouraged us to press on through the tough times.
- My dearest co-workers, my teammates: In the past few years working on different projects, many comrades are added to my life. We fight together for the Lord. They are the self-sacrificing volunteers who contribute their gifts. They are also the employed staff that work together; sometimes, they stay upall night to meet a deadline without any complaints. Together we start each day by sharing and praying to lift up one another in spirit.
I thank God for all these people! |

I answered God’s call to full-time ministry in an evangelistic concert held at church in 2004. I prayed for God’s direction in the following year. When I knew that I had the privilege to join CCHC, I could barely fall asleep with all that excitement in my heart! I’ve been part of the CCHC family for over a year now. What I have learned and experienced this past year was more than what I’ve learned in the past ten years from my other jobs. I saw God’s provision and training upon me. Whenever I feel overwhelmed by the heavy workload or when I have no clue how to even begin a task, He always faithfully guides me through. Though I work behind the scenes and that I don’t come into direct contact with those in need, I enjoy the teamwork and the privilege to be a light amongst the lost. |

“Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13-14) This is my favorite Scriptural passage.
I’ve served in the southern California office for almost seven years. Aside from the daily administrative tasks, I am involved in the basketball outreach ministry and the children ministry in China. I constantly remind myself to forget what is behind – both failures and success, lest I’d be discouraged by the mistakes or feel complacent due to my good work. I encourage myself to press on toward what is ahead, to work with my team on what God has called us heavenward, never look back or slack backward. If we focus on our goal - which is to please our Lord Christ Jesus, then we’ll never go astray.
I have been a blessed witness to testify what God has done in CCHC. To God be the glory! |

Nowadays, the L.A. office does not only serve the Chinese immigrant community. Lately we’ve been fired up by a vision to not only build our roots in the U.S., but to remember the needy in China. This summer, we organized a few short-term mission teams to witness God’s love to those in the orphanage in Fu Zhou. Praise the Lord! Many brothers and sisters who volunteered were like great clouds of witnesses surrounding CCHC. They love the Lord and their neighbors as they devote themselves wholeheartedly to serve. Their selfless giving is evident. Without them, our CCHC staff could not have achieved what God has called us to do. I personally experienced the truth in Psalm 121:1-2, which declares that our help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth! |

About two years ago, I lost my job and went through the darkest valley of my life. But praise the Lord! In hind sight, I realized that He allowed the unfortunate incidents to happen, so that I could build the foundation of my faith, hold on to the Biblical teachings, stand firm on the Truth, and wait upon His further guidance.
My past Christian service was limited within my church and I had no idea about the needs of the community. I was so ignorant! Later on, when I heard that the Community Center of CCHC was looking for a co-worker, I decided to answer God’s call and join the ministry. I believe that everyday I have opportunities to learn something new. I desire to offer my best to glorify God’s holy name. I am God’s instrument and He can use me as a channel to bless others. I praise Him for giving me health as well, so that I can serve and please Him! |

I joined CCHC with a step of faith but what followed were difficulties, one after another. I have never been trained to conduct interviews, write articles, typeset nor design graphics. I did not even know how to type in Chinese. How could I possibly accomplish my tasks in publishing the Herald Monthly? My heart hit rock bottom.
However, the Lord held my feeble hand tight, comforted me and strengthened my faith. He sent “angels” to help me everyday as we combined efforts to publish the Herald Monthly on time. After all these years, none of our issues have ever been delayed! We were even able to add more local news and various columns. In addition, our team assisted other CCHC departments in designing posters and other graphic art related projects. However, it is not I but Him that has done all the work! I give Him all the glory! |

“Herald Community Center. How are you?” Even when I answer calls at home or with my cell phone, I can't help but greet others with this line. It has become a joke among my friends.
Serving at the Herald Community Center has become an important part of my life over the past five years. From chatting with clients to communicating on a deeper level, people usually come for help in the areas of welfare, medical aid, finance, divorce, immigration, and work injuries. Although, some of them don’t really need any practical help. They just want someone to listen, understand, and pray for them.
Working at Herald, whether at the frontline or behind the scene, always gives me the opportunity to come into contact with different people. I ask God to grant me a gentle heart so that no matter what the situation is, may I love others as God loves and dwell in His glory. |

I joined CCHC in 2002 under God’s miraculous leading. All these years I took pride in having the privilege to join CCHC and being a witness for the Lord. Often times, I experience God’s grace and truth as written in 2 Corinthians 12:9: His grace is indeed sufficient for me.
God designated us to grow spiritually in various stages of life. In the past four years of ministry at CCHC, God has transformed me from a young girl, ignorant of American history and culture, to a “consultant” that can answer all kinds of questions in reference to community resources. Down to the smallest details, I could testify God’s presence in my life. In the beginning, my faith was weak but now I have grown stronger because I know He’s leading every step of the way and His grace always overflows! |

The Herald Christian Health Center is finally open!
After the excitement, there was a lot of work due including planning and reconstruction. In the midst of challenges, it required a lot of patience on our part, but God always met our needs in His timing.
I Thank God for my coworkers. In order to get the license from the Department of Public Health, three coworkers and I had to work overnight. We came back to the clinic for the inspection at 7 am. The whole process was like giving birth. Despite the difficulties, we were very excited.
I have also experienced God through meeting with the clinic patients. One of the patients had high blood pressure. Seeing various doctors and taking different medications didn’t help her at all. I asked her to pray and lift up her burdens to God. When she left the clinic, she said she felt much better and more relaxed than ever!
Looking forward, the clinic still has a lot of needs. We desire to be God’s instruments, but we also need your support, participation and prayers. |

In 2005, the Lord led me to LA, and there, I met my old friend Carolin. She envisioned the need of a medical center, and I felt the same burden. In the past, I encountered many low-income, uninsured immigrants that were not qualified for Medicaid, and we couldn’t offer much help. Hence, when Carolin invited me to realize this dream with her, I accepted without any hesitation.
From preparation to operation, the Herald Medical Center has gone through tremendous obstacles. However, God’s timely provision helped us to cope with the challenges. Though there will be more trials ahead, I know that the Lord leads the way and He sends co-workers along my side. Indeed, nothing is impossible with God! |

In 2005, God has led me to transfer my ministry from a church setting to this Christian organization. I was attentive to all learning opportunities and not willing to miss out on anything.
Over the past two years, I realized that the ministry of CCHC is not just about reaching out to the community, but it was also where I experienced God’s presence. The work is not easy and sometimes even considered impossible, but under God’s gracious leading, all missions are accomplished and are always better than what we originally anticipated.
I aspire to be an approved worker who does not need to be ashamed when Christ comes back! When I see Him face to face, I hope to hear Him call me a good and faithful servant as He invites me to sit with Him in the glorious feast! |

Why did I give up the great job and benefits at the American Cancer Society and start working at the Herald Cancer Association? My answer is because I know this is my God-given mission.
People come in for cancer information in Chinese. There are calls for appointments for women’s cancer screening tests. There are people who don’t know how to cope with their situation because they have no family, relatives, money or health insurance. Some come in tears and desperation since they cannot stand the side effects of chemotherapy.
I pray for God's wisdom, resources and sensitivity in order to reach out to the patients. I also pray for them so that they will be healed. Moreover, I pray for understanding upon God's vision for the Herald Cancer Association.
I am thrilled to see that our goal to serve as a bridge between the Chinese community and the mainstream society is becoming a reality. Not only are the special needs of the Chinese community acknowledged by the mainstream society, but people’s needs will be met through the society's resources. |

I joined the Herald Cancer Association in 2002. All these years, I’ve come to learn more about cancer and have personally benefited much from my ministry. I also have the opportunity to acquaint myself with cancer patients. Though it was sad to see some of them pass away, the joy and gratitude they showed at their final stage of life were very encouraging to me. Some patients became Christians as we got to know each other. After they’re cured, they volunteered to help other patients to fight cancer by visiting them and helping them to prepare nutritious meals. Their actions have touched my heart deeply.
We have many zealous volunteers that come to form a wonderful serving team. When we have a project going on or a deadline to meet, everyone feels pressured, but we are rewarded when we see that the participants are- benefited. At the Herald Cancer Association, I can help people and learn new things at the same time. In my opinion, there is nothing better than that! |

From a volunteer to a full-time paid staff, I have come to know what it means to be challenged, reminded, and encouraged.
Challenges: There is a big difference between churches and our community in terms of how family education works. The problems that churches mainly deal with are about faith, marriage, and parent-child relationships. However, the community faces much more complicated issues such as gambling, drug addiction, abortion, and extramarital affairs.
Reminders: God has reminded me of my limitations. Through the planning process of the Project Ascent, I saw my limitations every step of the way.
Encouragements: However, when I got to see broken marriages being rebuilt through the help of God, strayed disciples rediscovered God's grace, youth who used to take things for granted learned to give thanks and show appreciation, over 80 children sang together and over 20 of them received Christ as their personal Savior, I was encouraged.
After five years of service, God helped me to understand the Biblical truth of “His strength is made perfect in my weakness.” I am only His instrument! |

Chinese immigrants with American born children often encounter additional difficulty in communicating with their children. If the child is caught in a troublesome situation, they might be the last to be notified. Helplessness tends to be their common agony. When I think of these parents, my heart aches and I often intercede for them. Therefore, when Rev. Lee shared his vision with me, I answered the call immediately. Project Ascent took off in the summer of 2005. In the past three years, some young people have come to Christ and some wayward believers have reaffirmed their covenant with the Lord. Nowadays, they have even organized fellowships for other students. May the Lord continue to guide each young person to press on toward the goal that Christ Jesus has called us heavenward! |

When I joined CCHC, many of my friends and family members were concerned. They suggested that if I wanted to go into full-time ministry, I should consider doing it after retirement or just during my free time, instead of making this commitment right after graduation. However, God opened the door for me and if I did not respond, I would regret it later on. Since the Lord has gifted me with a heart for children and youth, I should trust in Him. When I respond to His calling, He will prepare and provide me with everything I need.
God’s plan is for me to sow the seeds of love to the young ones through prayer and evangelism. Besides, I have co-workers to intercede for me and help me mature. I know that God’s work can continue without me, but since He has called me to grow, how could I miss out on such a good opportunity to serve Him? |
