Dated May 14, 2008
Title: Herald Foundation has donated 1million RMB to the earthquake disaster area
In order to help the disaster area victims to go through the difficulty, the Chinese Red Cross Foundation has actively started disaster relief and fundraising work. Upon learning of the disastrous situation, Herald Foundation held an emergency meeting on the same night. The Herald Foundation decided to initially donate 1 million RMB to Chinese Red Cross Foundation to use in the disaster area and to go to the disaster area to observe the situation next week. The Herald Foundation has pledged to continue contributing to the reconstruction of the area.
It is reported that Herald Foundation is a registered non-profit organization run by a group of caring Chinese Americans, who has already been doing charity work for many years.
* Note: Herald Foundation is a division of CCHC in China
2. Rev. David Lee, the CCHC’s Southern California Superintendent, will go to the Sichuan disaster area next Wednesday, May 21. He will bring the financial aid as well as regards and care from overseas.
Although the present communication network and transportation are still poor, with the assistance from China Red Cross Foundation, we will be able to reach the area. We plan to go to the disaster field first and then visit and comfort the individual families. We hope to achieve the goal of helping holistically by providing not only financial assistance but caring for the victims as well. When we go with financial aid, we can bring encouragement and care to the victims. In order to mobilize more care, Rev. Lee will bring his experience and the victims' stories back to the Chinese American community. He will go back to the disaster area again in August in hopes of participating in the reconstruction work and establishing a long term relationship with the victims.
