Dear Brothers and Sisters,
As we remember the people who were devastated and lost their loved ones in the Earthquake a month ago, we pray that with the passage of time, they'll find healing and comfort from the Lord. We, at CCHC, are among the multitude that has extended helping hands to the victims. We received donations from different churches and individuals and have used these financial resources to purchase medicines, wheelchairs and tents. Our co-workers went to Sichuan, comforted and assisted the victims financially. In the aftermath of the tragedy, we have proposed a ten-year plan to help the victims rebuild their villages. We lean on the Lord's mercy and mighty power to console the victims with the hope that our efforts may help them adjust to their new life.
Meanwhile, we're pursuing our original plans to add an extension to the Mission Center and renovate our Allen Street building into the Inner City Mission Center. As some of ministries in New York are delayed due to construction, we're allocating more manpower to the Earthquake Relief project. In the next couple of months, we'll send co-workers to the epic-center of the earthquake and in September, I'll be visiting Sichuan before the opening ceremony of the orphanage in the Guangxi. While in Sichuan, I'll make a personal evaluation on how to aid the devastated areas with the most effectiveness.
As a matter of fact, tragedies are not only occurring in Sichuan, but also in our neighborhood without our awareness, that is, the strife between married couples and the dysfunction of families. When a family falls apart, it brings pain and suffering to those involved, but most of the time, the pain is ignored and the strife swallowed. Why is the pain ignored? Perhaps it's because the one that caused the pain is one of the dear family members or the strife is self-provoked. As a family keeper and watch-tower, CCHC has started a Four-Season Covenant movement, with the intent to emphasize the importance of a functioning family. This is no easy task.
In regards to the Inner City Mission ministry, our plan is to continue with the existing ministry at the Allen Street building but add on more inner city evangelism. We'll advocate the evangelistic need of the city to the suburban churches to partnership with us. We foresee the vision to be fully materialized after the building renovation is completed.
While we spend much of our resources to the Earthquake Relief, we have worries over where our administrative needs will come from. Perhaps you've already heard that our ministry is entirely faith-based and functions by receiving donations from believers. Presently we're experiencing shortage of supporting funds. One co-worker jokingly made a remark about this situation by saying that "we need relief, too." In the past 25 years, our co-worker team has witnessed that when we give, we're also given. We therefore urge you to continue donating to the CCHC’s administrative needs by sending us check for CCHC’s general fund. We really appreciate your help.
If you live in the areas of New York, New Jersey or Connecticut, we would like to invite you to join us in the Walkathon for Earthquake Relief on June 21, 2008. You may find the details of this event by logging on our website www.cchc.org or by calling 1-212-334-2033 at extension 1301. We encourage you to sign up with us before joining in person. May the Lord's grace beyond measurement be with you, today and forever!
Cordially yours,
Rev. Pak-Cheung Lo,
Your co-worker in Christ
