Disaster Donation

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We trust that you have heard about the 7.9 magnitude earthquake that shook Sichuan province in China on May 12. At the time, I was in Beijing meeting with the China Red Cross Foundation to develop a partnership with them for CCHC to aid in their work doing general disaster relief in China. During our meeting, the chandeliers started shaking and we felt the tremors from the earthquake. Little did we know at the time how serious the situation was and that it had originated all the way from Sichuan province.

In partnership with the China Red Across Foundation, CCHC will collect donations from the Chinese-American Christian community in the US to send to the Chinese Red Cross, with the caveat that neither CCHC nor the China Red Across Foundation would not charge any administrative fees for the funds we raise, so that we can direct 100% of the funds we raise toward disaster victims. We hope to raise 1 million RMB in the next 10 days.

Rev. David Lee, the CCHC's Southern California Superintendent, will lead an LA team to the damaged areas in southwestern China. In addition to providing food and financial assistance, we also hope to provide spiritual support during this time of need. We have a responsibility to offer what we can to comfort those who have suffered from this great tragedy. Associate Executive Director, Katie Chau, will provide press releases of our efforts to Chinese newspapers in NY. CCHC’s outreach program, Herald Care, will help promote this fundraising effort.

As I write this letter, I am at Xian Xi working on opening CCHC’s third children’s village for orphans. When I spoke with the Chinese government, they told me that China is opening up their doors to charitable organizations and we are one of the first of these groups the government has contacted. We are gaining their trust. A year ago, development in China may have meant getting rich off of the profits that are growing there. But for CCHC, the more successful we become in China, the greater our burden increases. We hope it is God’s will to open up this door for us to serve the Chinese. We will try our best and we will not forget the responsibility to spread the Gospel. We believe if we can be a good testimony, we can gain the trust of the communities we seek to serve and open the door for the Gospel.

If you want to help donate, you can write a check payable to CCHC and send it to: 48 Allen Street, New York, NY 10002. Please specify “China earthquake” on the memo line.

You can also donate online
Please pray for the disaster victims and for the relief workers in the area. May God increase our wisdom to fulfill His will and the responsibility He has given us.

Sincerely,

Reverend Pak Cheung Lo
