I just finished one week of Urban Mission Training Program offered by CCHC.  When I filled out the application, I thought urban mission is equivalent to street evangelism.  It turned out to be totally different and this program has brought me to another understanding and vision of spreading the gospel.

I learned a lot from this program.  First, it’s to put caring and spreading the gospel together.  If we don’t care, how are we going to spread Christ’s love?  A lot of times, we are just busy with tasks and activities to serve the Lord.  We tend to ignore caring because it takes up more energy, time and commitment.  I belong to the crowd with commitment-phobia.  As our teachers reminded us - caring is a process.  Just be there for the other person even you cannot solve their immediate problems.  Doesn’t sound that bad, right?!

Another part of the program is to strategize our mission.  There’s no doubt that prayer goes first when it comes to spiritual work.  However, God never say we should not plan and work smart! I have never noticed that there are so many bible passages that we can learn strategy from.  Hey, this just showed another attribute of God – infinite wisdom!

Other than theories, we got to observe how CCHC put their vision into practice.  Have you heard of Grace Door Ministry for the special needs, Jubikid which models on Metro Ministry for inner-city kids, …. How about cancer caring?  The variety of people that they reach out to is really amazing (elderly, kids, special needs, youth, orphans, …).  I just want to salute to the dedication and energy of the leaders and staff members of CCHC.

One more thing that I need to mention – can you pray for one hour without repeating the content?  That’s another thing I learned from the program.  If you want to know, come for the training!

There were many more that I learned from the program.  If you have the desire of serving the Lord (whether full time or as a layman), this program can definitely give you insights, encouragement and/or direction.  CCHC is going to offer this program again in March. Have time?   Let me know – we can go together!
